H.R. 722- The Bill that could Make abortion a federal offense
This bill is simply what it states, "To implement equal protection under the 14th article of amendment to the Constitution for the right to life of each born and preborn human person." taken straight from Congress' website. Why does this matter?
A woman's right to choose.
A bill such as this one implies that cells have more rights and autonomy than a human being does. It gives the government the right to punish women for the simple act of not wanting/not being ready for a child.
It puts people at risk.
People get abortions for so many reasons that aren't just "because they want" (Which should be valid enough). Abortion care helps with miscarriages, is needed in cases of rape/sexual abuse, and even is used to soften to uterus for IUDs.
It only bans safe abortions.
Even if this bill is passed- people will continue to have abortions one way or another. Women will use unsafe methods for getting rid of the fetus and it can become a national health crisis.
